The Final Days of Voting

There are only a few days left to vote for your favorite VPI Hambone Award nominee!  We’ve sifted through more than 80,000 claims each month to bring you the top 12 most outrageous pet medical claims of the year.  While each of the VPI Hambone Award nominees is worthy of the distinguished honor, only one will retain bragging rights to the title of VPI’s 2011 “Most Unusual Claim of the Year,” and the decision is up to you.

Dedicated voters have stepped up to the plate for each candidate, but a solid three remain in the lead. The top contenders for the 2011 VPI Hambone Award (in no particular order) are:

  • Stella Artois, the Labrador retriever whose obsession with green beans left her with an empty tin can lodged on her jaw;
  • Harley, the pug who devoured and subsequently pooped out more than 100 small rocks; and
  • Chico, the Chihuahua who was nearly made into a meal by a hungry owl.

The race is tight, with the top two nominees separated by only a few hundred votes.  Some of our candidates, like Moose the mastiff, who had a head-spinning encounter with the hoof of a mule, are building support later in the competition, slowly working their way toward the top for an unexpected upset. The bottom line is, this is anybody’s game and five days is plenty of time to make significant progress.

As our nominees make their final appeal for votes, we’ll be gearing up for the “big reveal.” In an effort to preserve the suspense, we’ll be concealing the nominee ranking for the remainder of the competition. Be sure to check out our Facebook page and Twitter feed for discrete updates about the 2011 VPI Hambone Award competition.

Good luck to all of the 2011 nominees – may the most Hambone-worthy pet win!
